Our Chosen Charities

At Lilly's we are passionate about our coffee and our service. We are also passionate about supporting those in need. Our chosen charities are Macmillan Cancer Support and CentrePoint for the young homeless.

We support these charities in a variety of ways - one of them is through donations for used coffee grounds.
Coffee grounds have a wide range of uses. Once you've enjoyed your drink we bag up the grounds at the end of the day and they are available for you to collect. All we ask is for a donation that will go to support our chosen charities.

If you are wondering what on earth you'd do with all that coffee, then read this...

What can I do with coffee grounds?

Here are some innovative uses;

Soften skin: Exfoliate with a body scrub made of coffee grounds, coconut oil and a little brown sugar. Gently massage it on in the shower, rinse, be soft. And it can help reduce the appearance of cellulite!

Please the flowers: Use coffee grounds as mulch for acid-loving plants — roses, azaleas, rhododendrons, evergreens, hydrangeas and camellias. They like coffee grounds for the natural acidity and nutrients they add to the soil.

Sadden the ants: Sprinkle coffee grounds around areas of ant infestation to deter them.

Deter gastropods: Used grounds are said to repel snails and slugs, so sprinkle them in problem areas.

Simplify fireplace cleaning: Before cleaning the fireplace, sprinkle with dampened used coffee grounds, which will weigh down the ash and thus eliminate clouds of smoke-flavoured dust.

Treat your hair: If you are looking for a way to get shiny, long hair without all of the expensive products, use coffee grounds! It is super easy to add it to your routine once a week, by mixing the grounds with your favorite conditioner. Coffee is said to actually aid with hair growth.

Make a sepia dye: Soak used grounds in hot water and use as a dye bath for Easter eggs, fabric and paper for a lovely, soft brown tinge.

Keep cats at bay: Keep kitties out of the garden with a mixture of orange peels and used coffee grounds distributed around plants.

Encourage the carrots: To boost a carrot harvest, mix seeds with dried coffee grounds before sowing. The extra bulk makes the seeds easier to manage, while the coffee aroma can nourish the soil and help repel pests.

Make Compost: If you have a compost, coffee grounds are a great addition. They are easy to throw in, attracts worms and will help to add nitrogen to your pile.

Remove Furniture Stains: It is super simple to fix a scratched dark wood table with a mixture of coffee grounds, warm water and vinegar. Your wood will be looking as good as new in no time.

Remove Odors: Sick of stinky odors in your fridge or household? It is easy to use coffee grounds to absorb smells! Just fill a bowl with them and leave it wherever the stink is, for a quick, inexpensive fix!

Marinate Meat: Who knew that you could use coffee grounds as meat marinade? Use a strong brew of coffee for your chicken, fish, poultry or pork, or add it to an already existing recipe for a smoky flavour.

Make Antique Paper: If you are ever in a fun, crafty mood, you can use coffee grounds to give your paper an antique look! It is fun and easy to put a spin on an invitation or decoration.
